What is Viscosupplementation for your knees?

Viscosupplementation, a new treatment for osteoarthritis of the knee, is widely used at our Clinic and providing very good results. This therapy includes 3 to 5 injections of purified hyaluronic acid (which naturally occurs in joints) into the arthritis-affected areas. This treatment is extremely useful for patients with multiple medical issues and conditions where traditional treatments (such as, NSAIDs, corticosteroid injections, and physical treatment) did not help or where traditional treatments would be contraindicated due to ulcers, allergy or history of GI bleeding.

Viscosupplementation may be used to treat osteoarthritis when the patient is not a candidate for surgical treatment or for patients following knee surgery, including endoscopic surgery.

Currently viscosupplementation is FDA-approved for treatment of OA of the knee. We are expecting approval of viscosupplementation for the treatment of other joints, including the shoulder and hip.
